Drakemyre Puttin on the Ritz came back in style from his Children’s Riding Pony of the Year Championship victory at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) 2018, to scoop another win for 2019; this time in the Roseberry Stud Ridden Partbred Pony of the Year Championship.
‘Alfie’, as he is known at home, is owned by Henrietta Till and ridden by daughter India. This talented pair have packed a lot in to their early years; India is just 12 years of age and this is her seventh win at HOYS, while Alfie is just six and has already won at HOYS each time out. They were Champions at the Royal International Horse Show this year and qualified for HOYS at the Royal Bath and West Show.
The Till family have owned the bay gelding for three years and he is produced by Katy Carter. His sire is Turberry Top Cat and he’s out of Pennyroyal Dancing at the Ritz.
Speaking after the class, Henrietta said: “Every win means so much to us. Alfie has real presence all the time; whether he’s at home in the school, or here. It’s mesmerising.”
It was a good day for the Katy Carter show team as second place went to another pony produced by Katy – Rotherwood Fantasia. This seven-year-old bay mare is owned by Michelle Bettaney and ridden by Emily Bettaney. She’s a British Riding Pony by Landeman Nighthawk out of Rotherwood Flight of Fancy.
India and Emily celebrated together afterwards, and they will both be back in the ring on Saturday for the British Show Pony Society Children’s Riding Pony of the Year. India can already look forward to the Ruckleigh School Supreme Pony of the Year on Sunday night with Alfie.
