North Herefordshire top the podium once again in LeMieux Prince Philip Cup

North Herefordshire regained the LeMieux Prince Philip Cup at Horse of the Year Show as they secured a fourth title in the last five years.

After their hat-trick years of 2022-2024, North Herefordshire were succeeded as champions by Wylye Valley 12 months ago.

There was to be no repeat, though, as North Herefordshire turned the tables after the Pony Club Mounted Games once again showcased the sport at its finest.

North Herefordshire finished on 120 points, 11 clear of Wylye Valley, with North Warwickshire third and Wynnstay fourth. The line-up for this year’s event had also seen Strathearn and Enfield Chace take part earlier in the week.

North Herefordshire went into the final session with an 11-point advantage over Wylye Valley, and they maintained that lead with victories in four of Sunday night’s seven games.

Team trainer Ian Hopkins, who has masterminded all of North Herefordshire’s HOYS successes, said: “There is lots of hard work, and a lot of it in the wind and rain back at Amberley Court in Hereford, where we train.

“There were a few things going wrong in the early part tonight, but once we got past the first game we had a good spot then.

“These kids spend hours and hours together, and the camaraderie is fantastic. In about two weeks’ time we will 100 per cent start training for next year.”
