‘Mr Versatile’ claims The Baker-Beall Family Intermediate Show Riding Type of the Year

Both the Champion and Reserve Champion of The Baker-Beall Family Intermediate Show Riding Type of the Year on the penultimate day here at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) are offspring of the prolific sire, and Leading Sire of the Year 2018, Kilvington Scoundrel.

Top honours went to the 158cm winner, Forgeland Hyde Park, owned and ridden by Miranda Wallace. Just seven years old, this versatile gelding is produced by Jayne Ross and was placed second with Jayne in the David Stennett Ltd. Large Hack of the Year on Thursday.

“He was very rhythmic, very mannerly and Miranda rode him to perfection,” said Jayne who was at the TopSpec Arena to watch the class unfold. “We call him Mr Versatile at home,” said Jayne, who explained that he’ll now have the winter off before he comes back in to “set sail for next season!”

This is Miranda’s last ride in Intermediates and what a way to end. Reflecting on the ride, she said: “He’s just to die for everytime.”

Reserve Champion went to the winner of the 153cm section, Brindlebrook Little Scoundrel. The 11-year-old Partbred Arab has had a successful season with sisters Rebecca and Jessica Ely and now adds this prestigious HOYS accolade to his list of wins.

Second place in the 158cm section, Mount Stephen Hidden Gem – ridden and owned by Melissa McCluskey – was also sired by Kilvington Scoundrel. The runner up spot in the 153cm section was taken by Vicki Rudd’s Hinwood Dreamcatcher; a 10-year-old by Llanarth Alleycat and ridden in the ring by Charlotte Elliott-Grooby.
