John Hughes was well known throughout the show circuit as a competitor with his daughters Janet and Marian and then his grandchildren Aled Harding and Cathrin Roberts. He had lifelong connections to the Pony Club Mounted Games and in particular The Prince Philip Cup at the Horse of the Year Show.
With John as trainer the David Davis Pony Club, one of the smallest in the UK, flew the flag for Wales in the Prince Philip Cup at the Horse of the Year Show attaining second place in 1972. This started a long association with HOYS and John never missed a show helping in the ring with the mounted games as a steward and was the Welsh representative on the committee a tradition still carried on by Marian. In 1992 he took the Great Britain mounted games team to the USA and returned with the highly prized gold medal.
He leaves his wife Megan, children Roger and Marian, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
