HOYS Announce the Driven Heavy Horse of the Year Judge

HOYS Announce the Driven Heavy Horse of the Year Judge

We are delighted to announce David Coffen will be judging the Driven Heavy Horse of the Year Championship at Horse of the Year Show 2023. David started competing at equestrian shows from a young age, His proudest moment was winning the 1996 National Shire Show and World Congress with Bass.

The introduction of the class in the HOYS timetable for 2023 has gained lots of interest from competitors across the length and breadth of the UK, and we are excited for the first qualifier to get underway on 30th April at The South Eastern Shire Horse Association Heavy Horse and Country Show.

Speaking to John Anderson a Clydesdale Breeder, who was the first person to import a Troyer Cart from Shipshewana into the UK, he comments ‘We were the first to compete with a Single Cart in the UK followed with a win at the Royal Highland Show and The Royal Show. The class has adapted over the years to now see over forty entries at the county shows, I am thrilled to see the class take place at Horse of the Year Show. It truly is a fantastic class to watch and a spectacle, especially with the variety of colourful carts and outstanding standard of heavy horses’.
