Thistledown Stud Elite Pony Auction

This prestigious new sale showcases an exclusive collection of 30 elite ponies from Thistledown Stud – one of Britain’s most respected breeding programmes, renowned for producing generations of elegant, talented ponies.

Taking place at Stoneleigh Park on Saturday 29th November 2025.

“We began at Thistledown with just two ponies for our daughters to ride. Disappointed by the training and temperament of the animals available, we decided to try breeding our own ponies with the character and disposition to suit a young child.

“For us they need to have a good front balanced movement to cover the ground and sound conformation. This journey was not easy within the Welsh Pony & Cob Society environment, where it often seemed that the only thing that mattered was whether a pony could run at the end of a rope – with performance well down the agenda.

“Today, we are particularly proud of the 203 HOYS tickets won by Thistledown-bred ponies between 2001 and 2025. It is also especially pleasing to see a mare we sold three years ago take the Overall Mountain and Moorland Title in 2025. Thistledown Superstar was aptly named, and she rightly takes her place on the front of this catalogue.

“We believe this catalogue contains ponies of great potential, and we hope you will appreciate the depth of quality we are offering. There are ponies with established show records, like Thistledown Madison, and others who have never left the farm.

“These ponies have been bred over more than 30 years with a clear end goal in mind.

“We would like to thank the professionals who have helped us prepare these animals for sale and will provide progress reports on each one at the sale.

“Lastly, if you decide to purchase one or more of these ponies, we wish you every success with them and hope you will develop their potential – whether in dressage, eventing, or in the ‘arena of dreams.’
