COVID Information

COVID STATEMENT

Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) continues to follow Government advice about Coronavirus (COVID-19) and will comply with the latest rules and regulations.

We ask that everyone visiting HOYS please familiarise themselves with the latest Government advice before they attend.  Please note: If you are feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms associated with Coronavirus (COVID-19) you will not be permitted entry to the show.  To help keep our visitors and staff safe we are continually reviewing how we operate to ensure that the measures that we have are, and continue to be, in line with best practice for the industry.   For simplicity these measures have been grouped into 5 categories – Social Distancing, Food & Beverage, Cleaning & Hygiene, Protect & Detect and Communication.

For HOYS the following measures are being planned, and will be enforced if necessary, in accordance with the latest guidance:
• Socially distanced queueing systems
• Digital ordering in catering areas and contactless payments, where possible
• Changes to layouts and crowd management to avoid build up in popular areas
• Enhanced cleaning regime and waste disposal
• Hand sanitisers available to staff and visitors at strategic points
• Cashless transactions, where possible
• Track and trace check-in per the guidance during show week

Competitors should be reassured that our safety measures and competition management have been developed in line with the best practice recommendations of the national governing bodies and the British Equestrian.

By working collaboratively with the NEC, all of our visitors, competitors, contractors, partners, and stakeholders, we know that we can get back to delivering what everybody wants – a great Horse of the Year Show – that is also a safe event and suitable for the times that we are in.  For more information about the NEC measures for a safe and controlled event environment please see visit www.necgroup.co.uk/protect

We will update this page in accordance with Government advice.

COVID 19 Information for competitors

The Government has strongly encouraged large venues to carry out COVID-status checks, therefore in line with other large exhibition and sporting venues, the NEC have taken the following precautions to help ensure the safety of our HOYS visitors, staff, contractors, officials and partners to reduce the risks of COVID-19 by implementing Covid Status checks at event entrances. All officials, competitors, contractors and staff will be checked prior to entering the event each time, those with a double vaccination will be given a wristlet as proof which will last the duration of the event.

Anyone with a double vaccination MUST obtain one of the following:

• NHS COVID Pass via the NHS App (NB This is different to the NHS COVID-19 Test and Trace app). It is advised individuals apply no later than 48 hours before attending their event to allow for the application to be processed in time.

• If visitors would prefer not to use the app or do not have a smartphone they can obtain a NHS COVID Pass letter (proving vaccination status only) by calling 119 or visiting the NHS website. EU Digital or paper COVID Certificate. International visitors can show their equivalent COVID Pass from their country of origin.

OR

• Proof of immunity shown by a positive PCR test result for COVID-19, lasting for 180 days from the date of the positive test and following completion of the self-isolation period.

People that are not double vaccinated will need to show proof of a negative test result as detailed below:

• Lateral flow or PCR negative test results text or e-mail, received within 72 hours prior to attending the event. However, we would encourage visitors to complete their test within 48 hours. This should ideally be done via the Covid app but for these that do not have this facility the actual negative LFT in a disposable bag will be accepted.

• Those visiting for more than one day will need to re-test every 48 hours.

*Children under 18 do not have to demonstrate their COVID-19 status for entry to domestic events or venues in England. Testing of children under the age of 18 is still recommended.

We encourage everyone attending Horse of the Year Show to please carry out a lateral flow test within 48 hours of arrival even if you are double vaccinated. It is our highest priority to ensure the safety of everyone attending the show. All attendees are responsible for carrying out their own tests and recording the results. Please ensure you have sufficient lateral flow tests to cover the time you are at the event. Tests can be ordered free of charge from the NHS website – https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

Everyone attending the event will be required to complete a covid status check before entering the venue.
