Zinc_Management_Five_Fence_Challenge_low_res.jpgThere was a thrilling three-way tie in the Zinc Management Five Fence Challenge that gripped the crowd on day three of Horse of the Year Show.

The multi-round competition, which sees fences rise in height with each round, was shared between Buckinghamshire's Helen Tredwell riding Sebastian VII, British Nations Cup star Michael Whitaker on Quelbora Merze and Ireland's Billy Twomey, who like Whitaker is based in Nottinghamshire, riding Diaghilev.

Points are accrued for each of the five fences jumped, and after the fourth round, all three riders agreed to share the winner's purse, each collecting just over £2,260.

"I am over the moon with my horse,"  Finmere-based Tredwell said. "He has never jumped anything like that before.

"He got better and better over the four rounds, and they were really big fences out there."

Whitaker added: "I am very happy with the way my horse jumped. This competition is a very good one for young horses.

"At 1.65 metres to 1.70 metres, they were big jumps, and the three of us thought the horses had done enough and we were happy to share it."

And Twomey said: "This is a very good class, really entertaining for the crowd, and I am delighted to share it with two great riders."
