A surprise guest at the ring side of the TopSpec Arena

Horse of the Year Show

British racing car driver Stefan Wilson swapped the cars for a different kind of horsepower today as he came along to Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham to support his mother Lynne Wilson as she took part in the prestigious Cuddy Supreme In-hand Championship.

Stefan, younger brother of the late Formula One and IndyCar Series driver Justin Wilson, was born in Sheffield but has been living out in the States for over six years now as he grows his career as a racing car driver. Stefan recently raced in the 100th running of the Indy500 which was a lifetime ambition of his. “It was an honour to be amongst the 33 drivers in the race, particularly in their 100th race,” he commented. He is also the winner of the 2007 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award for promising young British drivers.

As he stood spectating in the TopSpec showing arena, he commented on how his mother had tried to get him into horse riding from a young age: “I grew up around horses and I did ride occasionally, however I then discovered go-karting and realised that was where my passion lay. My mum has always supported me and has been along to all of my big races so I wanted to come over and support her. She qualified for the Cuddy earlier on in the year and I know how much it means to her to be here at Horse of the Year Show.”
