Shaarinah is top Purebred Arab at Horse of the Year Show 2016

Isabel Gray’s Shaarinah claimed The Barley Hill Show Team and Metalwood Fencing Ltd. Ridden Purebred Arab of the Year Championship on day three of Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), produced and ridden by David Frogatt.

A delighted David reflected on this special HOYS win, “I’ve had the cake but never the cherry on top. I’ve got the cherry now!” David rode Shaarinah to third place in 2015 and partnered Silvern Surprise to finish fourth in 2013, but until now a win had eluded him. The 12-year-old Chestnut mare by Kais out of Sherruka Al Roban has been produced by David for the last six years. She also took the highest placed mare award.

“She’s very easy to produce,” says David. “She can be a little bit mareish in the stable but as soon as she sees her tack it puts a smile on her face. She waits for you when you ride her – she never anticipates. She also does elementary dressage and we’ve had four out of five wins this year.”

In second place was LTF Jannade C, owned and ridden by Amanda Miller. The six-year-old also took the highest placed gelding award. Third was Katy Cotgrove’s Vartanii and fourth Susan Rose’s LVA Estopa Winter Storm (Au). The highest placed stallion was Sheikh Abdulla Al Thani’s Fadil Al Shaqab ridden by Claire Fitch, who finished in fifth.
