Phoebe’s dreams come true in the Kathleen Wood Children’s Riding Pony of the Year Championship

The 148cm ponies dominated the Kathleen Wood Children’s Riding Pony of the Year Championship on day four of Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), as the section produced both this year’s Champion and Reserve.

Joanne Price’s 10-year-old bay gelding Litton Enterprise by Llanarth Aristocat was crowned Champion, ridden by Phoebe Price. The pony has had a very good year going Champion at the Royal International and South of England Show.

The Price family have owned the pony for two years and this is their third HOYS appearance, having finished second last year.

A delighted Phoebe said: “He’s made all my biggest dreams come true.  He’s usually quite laid back but rises to the challenge when he’s out.”

She added: “At home we have lessons, take part in fun rides and like to hack out.”

Margaret Cartlidge’s Basford Black Prince stood Reserve with Poppy Carter. The eight-year-old black gelding is by Basford Court Jester out of Kingdom Princess.

First and second placed ponies from each height section were invited forward to contest the Championship.

In the 128cm section Rupert Till’s Rotherwood Rainmaker ridden by India Till took first, with Julie Templeton’s Field Aston Royal Fanfare in second ridden by Samuel Walker.

Winner of the 138cm section was Leah Dalley’s Archwood Romeo Gigle ridden by Madison Dalley. Jill Godden’s Rhos Envoy took second with Ellis Taverner-Burns.
