Stephen_Clarke2.jpgThis year HOYS will be offering a masterclass with a difference by demonstrating the various levels and techniques of training that go into preparing both the seasoned competitor, and the up and coming combination.

The masterclass will be hosted by one of dressage’s most well respected names, Stephen Clarke. Stephen is the FEI Dressage Judge General, Olympic Judge and an internationally renowned trainer. Stephen will not only share his expertise with the HOYS audience during the masterclass but he will also be one of the judges of the Mount St John Dressage Future Elite Championship on Friday evening.

During the masterclass Stephen will guide two riders, both of different levels, through various movements expected of a dressage horse in their respective competitive level.

The advanced level rider will be Gareth Hughes riding Classic Briolinca. Gareth is one of Great Britain’s most promising riders and has his sights set firmly on the ‘Road to Rio’.

Over the past 10 years in the dressage arena Gareth has won more than 30 National and International Titles including International wins at Small Tour and Grand Prix. The horse Gareth is riding, Classic Briolinca, is by Trento B and is on the Equine Pathway Programme and currently competing at Grand Prix level with impressive scores.

Uniquely, this year the up and coming rider position will be decided via a competition. There are 60 combinations who are eligible to win a place in the masterclass with Stephen Clarke. Those riders eligible to enter must have competed at Advanced Medium level at any one of the British Dressage Summer Regionals 2015, scoring 68% or higher, and have not taken part in Big Tour.

Each entrant will submit a video of themselves in action and it is then up to the public to decide who they would like to see at HOYS. The public can vote by visiting www.hoys.co.uk/show/dressage/dressage-masterclass-competition to help secure their favourite team a spot in the Dressage Masterclass at HOYS.

Having two riders at different ends of the training scale will show the audience how different training techniques can help horses develop at various stages to achieve their desired results.

The Dressage Masterclass will take place on Friday in the Andrews Bowen International Arena.
