(HOYS) is delighted to announce that the showing qualifiers for 2013 have now been published on Competitors up and down the country will contest the qualifiers, held between March and September, in a bid to secure their place at “The World’s Most Famous Horse Show” from 9th – 13th October 2013 at Birmingham’s NEC.

As the show heads towards its 65th anniversary, Grandstand Media Ltd, organiser of Horse of the Year Show, remains committed to providing the very best experience possible for its competitors. Consequently, two important changes have been made to the showing schedule for 2013.

Firstly, there will be four PRP Rescue Services Mountain & Moorland Working Hunter Pony class sections, as opposed to the original three. The new height divisions will be as follows: not exceeding 122cm, not exceeding 133cm, not exceeding 143cm and exceeding 143cm, with qualification for the four sections spread across 16 qualifying shows.

The decision was made to create a more equal playing field across the 12 native breeds. The tighter height sections will enable ponies to compete against those with similar athletic ability, over fences with heights and spreads better matched to their capabilities.

The second alteration for the 2013 schedule follows the announcement back in March regarding eight new standalone qualifiers for New Forest ponies and Connemara ponies in the Mountain & Moorland Ridden classes. Grandstand Media Ltd, organiser of Horse of the Year Show, is delighted to now announce that both breeds will also have an individual final at this year’s show.

Historically, New Forest ponies have only been able to qualify for Horse of the Year Show in classes which also included Connemaras and, similarly, have always competed against them at the show itself. The addition of an individual final was a natural progression following a significant increase in the numbers of top-quality New Forest and a huge increase in the number of Connemara ponies coming forward in qualifiers over the past two years.

The eight shows to hold stand-alone Mountain & Moorland qualifiers for both New Forest and Connemara ponies will be as follows:

Derbyshire Festival of Showing
Three Counties Show
Cheshire County Show
Lincolnshire Show
Royal Highland Show
Royal Norfolk Show
NPS Area 25 Summer Show
Moreton-in-Marsh Show

These are in addition to the NPS Summer Championship show and the New Forest and Connemara Breed Shows – both of which have previously held stand-alone qualifiers – as well as a number of combined qualifiers, which will also remain as per previous years.
