Household Cavalry. By Gwen HarrisVisitors longed for it and the organisers have delivered it; the incredible Musical Ride of the Household Cavalry will headline Horse of the Year Show’s displays when it returns to Birmingham’s NEC from 8th – 12th October.

The exceptional horsemanship and ceremonial pageantry of this spectacular 132-year-old Musical Ride will certainly strike a chord with an audience that knows what it wants. In a survey conducted by Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) organiser Grandstand Media Ltd, past visitors were asked which display is their favourite to see at HOYS. The Household Cavalry was the resounding Champion.

Soldiers from its two regiments, The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals, will stir up a cloud of emotion each day at HOYS, accompanied by feel-good music and the tremendous atmosphere of the Andrews Bowen International Arena. The regiments are among the oldest and most senior in the British Army and its troops are all fully trained and operational soldiers.

Since 1882, the Musical Ride has showcased elements of the impressive horsemanship used in battle to audiences nationwide. This is what HOYS visitors come to experience; foot perfect formations, incredible acts of trust, eye-watering bursts of speed and the level-headed direction of the iconic Drum Horse.

Captain George Ashby of the Household Cavalry commented: “The Musical Ride has been privileged to perform at HOYS in the past and now again this year. The Ride is designed to test both rider and horse while demonstrating the skills demanded of a Cavalry soldier over the centuries.”

Helena Pettit, Managing Director of Grandstand Media Ltd, added: “The Household Cavalry’s Musical Ride is undoubtedly the all-time favourite of our audience. We are honoured to be able to present it to them once again, especially during this 100th Anniversary year of the Great War. It is a truly spectacular display celebrating superb horsemanship and battle skills, while providing first-class entertainment.”

A second display for this year’s Horse of the Year Show will be announced shortly.
