Harry HOYS takes on a charity challenge

The Horse of the Year Show mascot known as ‘Harry HOYS’ took to Sutton Park in Birmingham on Sunday 8th April to partake in the Birmingham 5k Fun Run organised by UK Triathlon. Harry HOYS trotted his way around the park, catching the eye of spectators and fellow runners alike.

Marketing & Communications Manager, Sarah Measom, who also took part in the run dressed in horse riding attire, commented: “The other runners taking part were all very encouraging, if not slightly amused! We got lots of high fives and jovial comments and we managed to keep pace with majority of the runners which created a real ‘fun run’ atmosphere.”

Spokesperson for UK Triathlon, Zoe Steenson, commented: “UK Triathlon is all about promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging all abilities and ages to have a go and do what they can to exercise. Whether taking on a run, duathlon or triathlon, we encourage families and fundraisers to get involved, as well as the more athletic amongst us! We are especially delighted to see the new events for children and charity fundraisers go from strength to strength. It is always fun when people partake in costume and to see these girls around the course and crossing the finish line brought a huge smile to everyone’s faces.”

The race was done as a warm up for Harry HOYS who will be taking on The Mascot Gold Cup race at Wetherby Racecourse and Conference Centre during their annual Family Day race meeting on Sunday 29th April. The race is 1 furlong in length and involves several hurdles to jump over before a race to the finish. This is the 12th year of the Mascot Gold Cup, which set the Guinness World Record for the most mascots in a race back in 2015. The event raises money for Sue Ryder, incredible hospice and neurological care. Get a taste of what is in store for Harry HOYS here: https://youtu.be/84Lo7kmsAuE

Sarah Measom continues: “We hope to raise as much money as possible for charity as well as spread the word about Horse of the Year Show which is celebrating its 70th birthday this year. Taking part in the charity race is great fun and a great way of meeting some of our supporters. We hope to see some of you at Wetherby Racecourse on Sunday 29th April!”
