Eddis sisters steal the show in The British Show Pony Society Mountain & Moorland Working Hunter Pony of the Year Championship

It was not one, but two wins for the Eddis family, topped by an overall Championship title as sisters Lucy and Susie were victorious in their respective sections of The British Show Pony Society Mountain & Moorland Working Hunter Pony of the Year. Lucy later went on to claim the Championship and described the whole day as “amazing” and one which would probably “never happen again”.

Lucy won the Exc. 143cm section riding her mother Polly Eddis’ Cashel Bay JJ, a Connemara gelding by Castleside JJ. The 13-year-old pony is no stranger to HOYS. He competed and was placed in the same class with his previous owner Victoria Leavesley, and competed here again with Lucy in 2014 and 2015.

Polly said: “I hunted Cashel Bay JJ just last week; he’s the most beautiful pony to ride. He is home produced and was on the Connemara team at the Dublin Horse Show; three of the four in the team jumped clear here today.”

Susie’s ride and 122cm section winner Kyregate Peter Pan was Lucy’s pony before going to Susie. Lucy competed the 16-year-old Welsh Section A for seven years.

Reflecting on both of her daughters’ performances, Polly said: “We came with low expectations. Both of the girls are at boarding school, so the preparation has been a little haphazard. I’m absolutely over the moon.”

Reserve Champion went to Welsh Section D and 143cm section winner Gwerniago Gethin owned and ridden by Ashley Bird. The 133cm section winner was Robert Lemieux’s Welsh Section B Birkinbrook Cello ridden by Samantha Roberts.
