Hoys_RGB_new_logo.jpgDay three at “The World’s Most Famous Horse Show” produced exciting competition both in the Andrews Bowen International and the Caldene Arena.

The first Championship of the day was the Guy Fawkes III Intermediate Show Hunter of the Year Championship. The class produced many talented young riders but it was Clare Curry riding Noble Star who took the title.

Curry was overwhelmed with her win saying: “I didn’t think it would ever happen to me. I owe everything to my family, I would never be here without them.”

It was then onto the Underwood Working Hunter Pony of the Year Championship where the competitors skills and agility were put to the test over a course of rustic fences followed by further judging on show and conformation.

When the final decision was made it was Dumfries’ Philippa Weir riding Freckleton Maximus who emerged the victor.

The first year psychology student was elated by her first HOYS win saying: “I am on cloud nine. HOYS it’s a whole different scale, it’s amazing to win here”

Weir and Freckleton Maximus now move on to Sunday's Ripon Select Foods Supreme Horse of the Year Championship.

TopSpec Show Hunter of the Year Championship, one of the most traditional classes at HOYS, was decided during the evening performance in the Andrews Bowen International Arena.

Cheshire’s Robert Walker and Vantage Point emerged from a competitive field to take the win.

This is the second year in a row that Walker has won the title which will now carry him forward to Sunday evening’s Ripon Select Foods Supreme Horse of the Year Championship on Sunday.

The day was emotional for Walker as earlier in the day he retired Starry Night in the ring after their win in the Leeman Family Maxi Cob of the Year Championship.

“We had three rides and three winners today which is just a red letter day. To have a winner like that today makes it worth while.”

The adrenaline continued to pump in the Virbac 3D Worming Pony Club Mounted Games today with rounds two and three of the Prince Philip Cup thrilling audiences.

Romney Marsh Pony Club narrowly stole the win from Monmouthshire Pony Club in round two, with Strathearm Pony Club winning round three, once again just ahead of Monmouthshire Pony Club.

Friday saw both the section A small and the section B large compete in round 2 of the Osborne Refrigerators Double Harness Scurry.

It was Carriage House Insurance Touch & Go driven by Chris Orchard in the section A small who secured their place in tomorrows final.

Dark Horse Fred & Barney driven by Gareth Roberts sped to victory in the section B large winning by more than one second.
